WEST COAST BOATYARD ASSOCIATION

We are

The West Coast Boatyard Association is a membership organization that represents, promotes and advocates for the professional businesses and tradespeople that service, refit and construct recreational craft in British Columbia.

Our aim is to increase the viability of the marine trades in BC.  Our focus is on the stability and sustainability of our member businesses.  We collaborate with industry groups to makes skills training happen, and work with our member businesses to implement labour strategies that promote growth.

We value

  • Skill development through training and professional development opportunities

  • Labour stability through the promotion of marine trades careers

  • Company growth through access to industry resources, technical training and networking relationships within the broader marine industry.

  •  Credibility through recognized credentials for marine industry professionals.

Our History

The WCBA was originally founded in 1995 as the Vancouver Island Marine Repair Association (VIMRA) by a group of BC boatyard owners and service companies. VIMRA members developed the Marine Service Technician (MST) trade that is now certified by the Province of B.C. After the incorporation of Quadrant Marine Institute to deliver the MST technical training, VIMRA was officially renamed the West Coast Boatyard Association.

Since 2004, the WCBA and its key members have been working to promote marine service excellence in BC boatyards. Members have been involved in workforce development initiatives and advocacy for boatyards and service companies on government policy issues.
